Abstract

Engagement in classroom activity helps the students learn. There are three dimensions of students’ engagement: behavioral, emotional, and cognitive. The researcher found that the main problem of students in grade VII XYZ school was in the behavioral dimension. The researcher used the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) method to improve the students’ behavioral engagement. The researcher conducted the research using Classroom Action Research (CAR). It used descriptive statistical calculations to analyze the data and explain the results. The results of the analysis showed that the NHT method did not improve the students’ behavioral engagement. The researcher emphasized the weakness of this research in some statements of the instruments. So the researcher provided the recommendation of the new instrument to measure the students’ behavioral engagement. Although a satisfactory level of behavioral engagement was not met, good time management and clear instructions in each step of NHT method also helped to improve the students’ behavioral engagement./ Keterlibatan di dalam aktivitas kelas membantu siswa untuk belajar. Ada tiga dimensi dari keterlibatan: perilaku, emosi, dan kognitif. Peneliti menemukan bahwa masalah utama dari siswa kelas VII di sekolah XYZ adalah dalam dimensi perilaku. Peneliti menggunakan metode kepala bernomor untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa. Peneliti merancang penelitian dengan menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). PTK ini menggunakan deskriptif perhitungan statistika untuk menganalisis data dan menjelaskan hasil data. Hasil data menunjukkan bahwa metode kepala bernomor tidak dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa. Peneliti menekankan kelemaham penelitian ini pada pernyataan di dalam instrument penelitian. Sehingga peneliti memberikan rekomendasi instrumen yang baru untuk mengukur keterlibatan perilaku siswa. Walaupun keterlibatan perilaku siswa tidak mencapai tingkat kepuasan, pengaturan waktu yang baik dan instruksi yang jelas pada setiap langkah metode kepala bernomor juga dapat membantu meningkatkan keterlibatan perilaku siswa.
