Abstract

Pemahaman konsep dasar dari materi yang dijelaskan guru akan memudahkan siswa dalam mengerjakan soal yang berkaitan dengan materi dalam bentuk apapun. Namun realita yang peneliti temukan adalah kurangnya pemahaman siswa akan konsep dasar dari materi yang dijelaskan guru. Siswa hanya mampu mengerjakan soal yang sama dengan contoh soal yang diberikan oleh guru, sedangkan jika guru mengubah masalah dari soal tersebut maka siswa akan bingung dalam menyelesaikannya. Dalam mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti menggunakan pembelajaran STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) untuk membantu siswa memahami konsep dari materi yang dijelaskan, serta peneliti juga ingin mengetahui cara penerapan pembelajaran STAD dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui jika dalam materi persamaan kuadrat dengan metode STAD dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa dan menjelaskan cara menerapkan metode STAD dalam materi persamaan kuadrat pada kelas X yang dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dengan dua siklus. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada siswa kelas X SMA ABCD di Tangerang dengan jumlah 29 siswa yang mengikuti seluruh kegiatan dalam penerapan metode STAD. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan hasil tes siswa, lembar angket siswa, lembar wawancara siswa, lembar feedback guru mentor, lembar observasi guru mentor atas pemahaman konsep siswa, dan jurnal refleksi peneliti. Data yang diperoleh dianalisa dengan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini adalah penerapan metode STAD yang terdiri dari beberapa tahapan dalam persiapan dan pelaksanaan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep matematika pada materi persamaan kuadrat bagi siswa kelas X SMA ABCD dengan adanya perbaikan dalam pengontrolan keberlangsungan kerja kelompok dan menekankan konsep yang mendasari materi yang sedang dibahas./ Understanding the basic concept of mathematics will facilitate the students in solving the questions which are related to material. However, the reality is students are lack of understanding about the basic concept of material explained by teacher. Student can only solve the questions which are the same as the examples given by teacher and get confuse in solving it if teacher changes the problem of the question. Dealing with this kind of problem, researcher uses STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) learning to help students to understand the concept of material and researcher wants to know the way in applying STAD learning in order to improve student’s understanding of the concept. The purpose of this research is to know if using STAD in quadratic equation can improve student’s concept understanding and explain the way in applying STAD method in quadratic equation in grade X. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) and implemented in two cycles. This research has been implemented in grade X students at SMA ABCD in Tangerang, involved 29 students. Researcher uses student’s test result, student’s questionnaire form, student’s interview form, mentor’s feedback and observation form toward student’s concept understanding and researcher’s journal reflection as the data collection instrument. The collected data analyzed using qualitative descriptive analytical technique. The conclusion of this research is applying STAD method which is contains of several steps in preparation and implementation can improve mathematics concept of understanding in quadratic equation for grade X at SMA ABCD.
