Abstract

Background: Short-term memory plays an important role in our daily lives and can deteriorate due to several aspects, such as nonoptimal sleep duration and excessive stress, both of which tend to be experienced by medical students. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a breakthrough in this digital era that was observed to be able to increase brain activity in the frontal and parietal regions so that it can stimulate the brain to increase short-term memory. Objective: To find out the effect of the ASMR audio on short-term memory function in medical students in the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan. Method: This study used a randomized controlled trial of 40 medical students in the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan that fulfilled the criteria with stratified sampling techniques. This research will be using the Scenery Picture Memory Test (SPMT). Results: In the intervention group, the SPMT score before and after ASMR intervention period are 16.05 ± 2.78 and 21.05 ± 1.66. In the control group, the SPMT score before and after ASMR intervention period are 16.25 ± 3.41 dan 18.05 ± 3.33. The SPMT score before and after ASMR intervention period differences have higher significance in the intervention group (p < 0.001) than those in the control group (p = 0.001). Conclusion: ASMR audio affects short-term memory function in medical students in the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan. Keywords: Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR), medical students, Scenery Picture Memory Test (SPMT), short-term memory
