Abstract

Conceptual understanding is necessarily important to be taught so that the students can explain and apply the concepts in a certain situation. It includes in mathematics goals besides creating the awesomeness of God. In fact, the researcher found that the students she taught were struggling in understanding the concepts, especially in function topic. Based on the researcher‟s reflection of teaching, the learning method was used tended to be monotonous which did not support the students to develop their conceptual understanding. The researcher implemented Quantum Teaching as a solution for overcoming the problem. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research model arranged by Kemmis and Taggart with two cycles. This research conducted in grade 8C students at SMPK X Manado started on September 26th to November 5 th, 2015. To collect the data, the researcher used some instruments i.e. test, questionnaire sheet, interview sheet, journal reflection and document. The data had analyzed by using simple statistic and coding. The result showed that Quantum Teaching had increased the students‟ conceptual understanding. It also made the students enjoy the learning process. By creating group working, using open-ended questions and giving feedback to the students are the most important things in the implementation of Quantum Teaching to increase the students‟ conceptual understanding./ Pemahaman konsep sangat penting untuk diajarkan sehingga siswa dapat menjelaskan dan menerapkan konsep tersebut dalam suatu keadaan. Pemahaman konsep temasuk dalam tujuan belajar matematika selain untuk menciptakan rasa kekaguman kepada Allah. Faktanya, peneliti menemukan siswa yang diajarnya mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep, terutama mengenai topik fungsi. Berdasarkan refleksi mengajar peneliti, metode pembelajaran yang digunakan cenderung monoton sehingga tidak dapat mendukung siswa untuk mengembangkan pemahaman konsep mereka. Peneliti menerapkan Quantum Teaching sebagai solusi untuk menanggulangi masalah ini. Metodologi penelitian yang dipakai adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas model Kemmis dan Taggart dengan dua siklus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan kepada siswa kelas 8C di SMPK X Manado mulai dari 26 September sampai 5 November 2015. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan beberapa instrumen yaitu tes, lembar angket, lembar wawancara, jurnal refleksi, dan dokumen. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik sederhana dan koding. Hasil penelititan menunjukkan bahwa Quantum Teaching telah meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa. Hal ini juga membuat siswa menikmati proses pembelajaran. Dengan menciptakan kelopok kerja, penggunaan pertanyaan terbuka dan memberikan umpan balik kepada siswa merupakan hal yang paling penting dalam pelaksanaan Quantum Teaching untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa.
