Abstract

Tanah lempung ekspansif yang memiliki sifat kembang susut yang tinggi dan cenderung memiliki kuat geser yang rendah dapat menyebabkan banyak masalah pada konstruksi bangunan. Untuk itu, tanah ekspansif tersebut perlu diturunkan sifat kembang susut dan ditingkatkan kekuatan tanahnya. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan bakteri Bacillus amyloliquefaciens yang menghasilkan biosemen untuk menurunkan sifat kembang susut dan meningkatkan kekuatan tanah. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens memerlukan kalsium untuk menghasilkan biosemen. Penelitian ini juga mempelajari sumber kalsium yang berasal dari cangkang telur. Derajat pengembangan tanah akan diuji dengan uji free swell index, sementara kuat geser tanah akan diuji dengan uji direct shear dan pengujian triaxial UU. Untuk melihat pengaruh konsentrasi bakteri akan diuji sampel tanah yang diberikan medium kultur yang mengandung bakteri Bacillus amyloliquefaciens dengan konsentrasi bakteri yang ditumbuhkan selama satu hari yang memiliki OD sebesar 0,097 (kosentrasi normal) dan medium kultur dengan bakteri Bacillus amyloliquefaciens yang telah diatur agar memiliki konsentrasi bakteri empat kali lipat dari bakteri yang ditumbuhkan selama satu hari (empat kali konsentrasi normal). Tanah yang diuji merupakan tanah lempung berjenis CH dengan nilai kuat geser sebesar 0,22 kg/cm² (diuji dengan metode direct shear) dan 0,3 kg/cm² (diuji dengan metode triaxial UU). Setelah 90 hari, derajat pengembangan tanah dengan konsentrasi bakteri normal mengalami penurunan sebesar 30%, sementara kekuatan tanah meningkat menjadi 0,38 kg/cm² (72.727%) (diuji dengan metode direct shear) dan 0,367 kg/cm² (22,333%) (diuji dengan metode triaxial UU). Sedangkan sampel tanah dengan konsentrasi bakteri empat kali lipat mengalami penurunan derajat pengembangan tanah sebesar 35% dan peningkatan kuat geser tanah mejadi 0,43 kg/cm² (95,455%) (diuji dengan metode direct shear) dan 0,41 kg/cm² (36,667%) (diuji dengan metode triaxial UU). / Expansive clay has high swelling index and low shear strength which can raise many problems for construction progress. Therefore, the swelling index of expansive soil needs to be reduced and soil shear strength needs to be increased. This research utilized Bacillus amyloliquefaciens which can produce biocement to decrease swelling index and increase shear strength properties of soil. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens needs calcium to produce biocement. This research studied calcium which was extracted from eggshell. Swelling index was tested with free swell index, while shear strength tested using direct shear dan triaxial UU method. To observe the influence of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens concentration to swelling and shear strength, the research executed by using two kind of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens concentration which was the concentration of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens which was cultivated for one day which had OD value of 0,097 (normal concentration) and concentration of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens which was four times than that of normal concentration. The soil used in this research was CH type which had shear strength 0,22 kg/cm² (tested using direct shear) and 0,3 kg/cm² (tested using triaxial UU) and had 100% swelling from free swell index test. After 90 days, swelling index of soil samples, which were induced with normal concentration of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, decreased by 30%, while their shear strength increased by 72,727% (0,38 kg/cm²) (tested using direct shear) and 22,333% (0,367 kg/cm³) (tested using triaxial UU). Meanwhile the swelling index of soil samples, which were induced with four times of normal concentration of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, decreased by 35% and their shear strength increased by 95,455% (0.43 kg/cm²) (tested using direct shear) and 36,667% (0,41 kg/cm²) (tested using triaxial UU).
