Abstract

Misbehavior is a challenge for Christian education nowadays. During the teaching practicum in a private Christian school in West Jakarta, the writer found that pre-k students misbehaved in the classroom. It was seen from their interactions with teachers and friends in the class. Moreover, misbehavior disrupted the learning process in the classroom. To overcome that problem, the writer implemented storytelling method to instill the respect value, so that the students know how to behave well and respectfully to teachers and friends. This paper aims to analyze the cause of misbehavior and to find how teacher minimizes students’ misbehavior through the implementation of storytelling method in pre-k class. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. In the Biblical perspective, misbehavior is the effect of sin. That is Christian education must be a redemptive act that guides students into Christ-like character. Thus, in implementing storytelling method, teacher must pay attention to three important elements, namely storyteller, story, and audience which correlate with each other. In conclusion, storytelling method was effective enough to minimize the pre-k student’s misbehavior. Besides that, future researchers could examine whether the use of digital media in telling stories to pre-k students is effective and can maximize the learning outcomes./Perilaku buruk merupakan tantangan bagi pendidikan Kristen saat ini. Selama program praktikum mengajar di salah satu sekolah Kristen swasta di Jakarta Barat, penulis menemukan siswa pre-k berperilaku buruk di dalam kelas. Hal itu terlihat dari interaksi mereka dengan guru dan teman di kelas. Selain itu, perilaku buruk mengganggu proses pembelajaran di kelas. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, penulis menerapkan metode bercerita untuk menanamkan nilai hormat, sehingga siswa mengetahui bagaimana berperilaku baik dan hormat kepada guru dan teman. Makalah penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penyebab perilaku buruk dan menemukan bagaimana guru meminimalkan perilaku buruk siswa melalui penerapan metode bercerita di kelas pre-k. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam perspektif Alkitab, perilaku buruk adalah akibat dari dosa. Artinya, pendidikan Kristen harus menjadi aksi penebusan yang membimbing siswa ke dalam karakter seperti Kristus. Oleh karena itu, dalam menerapkan metode bercerita, guru harus memperhatikan tiga unsur penting, yaitu pendongeng, pencerita, dan penonton yang saling berkorelasi. Kesimpulannya, metode bercerita cukup efektif untuk meminimalisir perilaku buruk pada siswa pre-k. Selain itu, peneliti selanjutnya dapat mengkaji apakah penggunaan media digital dalam bercerita kepada siswa pre-k efektif dan dapat memaksimalkan hasil pembelajaran.
