Abstract

Mahasiswa di Jabodetabek merupakan mahasiswa yang berada dalam lingkungan pendidikan yang di dalamnya terdapat banyak kelompok etnis, agama dan budaya. Hal ini tentunya menciptakan tantangan bagi mahasiswa untuk tetap bisa berelasi secara harmonis dengan orang lain dengan tetap mempertahankan identitas dalam dirinya. Penelitian dengan model kuantitatif ini bertujuan untuk melihat peran diferensiasi diri terhadap kompetensi budaya pada mahasiswa di Jabodetabek. Partisipan penelitian terdiri atas 147 mahasiswa yang saat ini tinggal dan berkuliah di daerah Jabodetabek. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dimensi dalam diferensiasi diri yaitu maintaining identity dan relational sensitivity memiliki kontribusi positif yang signifikan terhadap kompetensi budaya, sedangkan untuk dimensi emotional distancing memiliki kontribusi negatif signifikan terhadap kompetensi budaya. Uniknya dalam hasil penelitian ini memiliki hasil yang berbeda pada dimensi relational sensitivity yang telah dilakukan di budaya barat/ Students in Jabodetabek find themselves in an educational environment characterized by diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural groups. This diversity presents a challenge for students to maintain harmonious relationships with others while preserving their identities. This quantitative research aims to examine the role of self-differentiation in cultural competence among university students in Jabodetabek. The study involved 147 participants currently residing and studying in the Jabodetabek area. The findings reveal that dimensions of differentiation of self, specifically maintaining identity and relational sensitivity, significantly contribute positively to cultural competence. In contrast, the emotional distancing dimension shows a significant negative contribution to cultural competence. Interestingly, the research results diverge from those found in Western cultures, particularly in the dimension of relational sensitivity
