Abstract

This research aims to investigate the influence of self-efficacy on stress coping mechanisms among working students in the JABODETABEK region. Self-efficacy is described as an individual's belief in their ability to control situations and achieve positive outcomes, which plays a crucial role in how individuals cope with challenges in difficult circumstances, known as stress coping. Stress coping is divided into three categories: problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and less useful coping. This study is based on the notion that working students face dual demands from both their jobs and studies, which can be a significant source of stress in their lives. Therefore, understanding how self-efficacy affects the way working students cope with stress can provide valuable insights. A quantitative methodology was employed in this research, and the results indicate that self-efficacy significantly influences both problem focused and emotion focused coping (r = 0.480, p < 0.001 & r = 0.517, p < 0.001). This suggests that higher self-efficacy among working students is associated with an increased utilization of problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies. Furthermore, the study reveals that gender also has a significant impact on stress coping.
