Abstract

Stereotyping certain major based on gender social norms (masculine and feminine) can hinder gender equality for both men and women. Despite men being well represented in various labour fields, there is still a lack of male representation in fields that are typically associated with female stereotypes. In recent years, the adherence of men to the image of the stereotypical man (Traditional Masculinity Ideology) may have shifted or changed, particularly among young adults. Thus, this quantitative study aims to see the contribution of traditional masculinity to career choices using independent sample t-test. The instrument used in this study was the Male Role Norm Inventory short form (MRNI-SF). The results showed that there isn’t any difference of traditional masculinity regarding choosing a major (p=.359).
