Abstract

Latar Belakang: Prevalensi stres dikalangan mahasiswa kedokteran diketahui cukup tinggi dibanding jurusan lainnya. Previous studies reported that stress levels in medical students reached 63% in several medical faculties in Saudi Arabia. It has also been reported that there is a significant relationship between stress and physical activity. In addition, there are several studies which suggest that knowledge about physical activity has a relationship with a person's habit of physical activity. However, other studies reported that knowledge about physical activity and stress levels did not affect the level of physical activity. With the differences in the results of these studies, it is still necessary to examine the relationship between stress levels and knowledge levels on the level of physical activity in medical students. Objective: To determine the relationship between stress level and level of knowledge of physical activity on the level of physical activity in preclinical students at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pelita Harapan. Methodology: This study used a cross-sectional analytic study with a non-random convenience sampling technique on 67 respondents from the medical faculty of Pelita Harapan University preclinical students. The questionnaire used in this study was the PSS (perceived stress scale) to measure stress levels, the GPAQ (Global Physical Activity Questionnaire) to measure the level of physical activity and the knowledge questionnaire to measure the level of knowledge of physical activity. The collected data were analyzed using the Chi-Square method with the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 27 program. Results: Of the 76 respondents, there were 67 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The majority of respondents are women with an average age of 20 years. Low stress levels are 19.4%, medium 71.6% and high 9.0%. The level of knowledge regarding low physical activity is 4.5%, medium is 59.7% and high is 35.8%. At low levels of physical activity there were 40.3%, moderate 47.8% and high 11.9%. The results of the chi square test regarding the relationship between knowledge and physical activity level is a p value of 0.335 with an odds ratio (OR) of 0.43 while the relationship between stress levels and physical activity level has a p value of 0.55 with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.538. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of stress on the level of physical activity in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Pelita Harapan. The odds ratio for the relationship between the level of knowledge and the level of physical activity is 0.43, which means that a sample with a low level of knowledge is 0.4 times at risk of not doing physical activity. The odds ratio of 0.55 indicates that respondents with high levels of stress are at risk of not doing physical activity 0.55 times.
