Abstract

The recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine in Europe has brought forth numerous problems that not only affect Russia or Ukraine but also the rest of the world. One such problem is how the conflict has affected food security, a crucial part of a nation’s development and stability. This research focuses on the food security of the European Union, the main regional organization of the European continent. Therefore, this research aims to gain an understanding on how the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has developed since 2014, has impacted the European Union’s food security situation. The theory used in this thesis is Realism and using the qualitative research approach together with the descriptive research method. Data used will mainly be secondary data sourced from credible online sources combined with library research. From research conducted on the topic, this thesis concludes that the conflict indeed has had several effects on the food security within the European Union, although not to the disastrous effects it had on other less capable nations. These effects include increases in prices of goods, forcing the change and improvement of infrastructure, and participation in international relief efforts. / Konflik baru-baru ini antara Rusia dan Ukraina di Eropa telah menimbulkan banyak masalah yang tidak hanya berdampak pada Rusia atau Ukraina tetapi juga seluruh dunia. Salah satu permasalahannya adalah bagaimana konflik tersebut berdampak kepada keamanan pangan yang merupakan bagian penting dari pembangunan dan stabilitas suatu negara. Penelitian ini akan fokus pada keamanan pangan Uni Eropa, organisasi regional utama di benua Eropa. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan pemahaman tentang bagaimana konflik antara Rusia dan Ukraina, yang sudah berkembang sejak 2014, telah berdampak kepada situasi keamanan pangan Uni Eropa. Teori yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah Realisme dan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif serta metode penelitian deskriptif. Data yang digunakan sebagian besar merupakan data sekunder yang tersumber dari sumber online yang kredibel dan dipadukan dengan penelitian kepustakaan. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan mengenai topik tersebut, tesis ini menyimpulkan bahwa konflik memang mempunyai beberapa dampak terhadap ketahanan pangan di Uni Eropa, meskipun tidak menimbulkan dampak buruk terhadap negara-negara lain yang kurang mampu. Dampak-dampak ini termasuk kenaikan harga barang, pemaksaan perubahan dan perbaikan infrastruktur, dan partisipasi dalam upaya bantuan internasional.
