Abstract

It is currently responsible for the highest share of cancer in Indonesia. Chemotherapy is one of the treatment options for breast cancer. However, it includes multiple side effects, such as suppression of the bone marrow, digestive issues, fatigue, skin disorders, and hair loss which could affect a person’s quality of life. To date, there has not been much research on the correlation between chemotherapy frequency and quality of life that uses the VAS score as an indicator for the quality of life. Aim of Study: The aim of this study is to identify the correlation between the amount of chemotherapy frequencies and quality of life in breast cancer patients at Siloam Hospitals. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 285 subjects that fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Data collection of chemotherapy frequency is obtained from medical records and quality of life is measured with Visual Analog Scale which is also obtained from medical records. Result: There is no significant correlation between the amount of chemotherapy frequencies and quality of life in breast cancer patients at Siloam Hospitals (p value>0.05). Among 285 subjects with chemotherapy frequencies ranging from 1 to 42 times, results of good quality of life were obtained in most of the subjects (81.8%). Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between the amount of chemotherapy frequency and quality of life in breast cancer patients at Siloam Hospitals.
