Abstract

This thesis will explore more about the leadership of Joko Widodo's administration's point of view towards the key security issues in ASEAN. The purpose of this thesis is to make an image of how the administration of Joko Widodo represented Indonesia as one of the leading countries in the ASEAN response to the key security issues in the region, at the same time this thesis aims to create a better point of view on the way leadership can influence decision making which will make people choose better leader in the future. Therefore, this research focuses on analyzing Joko Widodo’s administration’s behavior towards ASEAN security issues and the way Indonesia under Joko Widodo behaved towards the ASEAN security mechanism. This research uses constructivism theory to describe the identity of Indonesia and ASEAN in terms of supporting the argument. This research uses a qualitative research approach which is conducted by descriptive research method by comparing and analyzing literature and government data collected. The outcome of this research presents the key security issues in ASEAN that are recognized by Indonesia and the reactions of Indonesia towards those key issues as in Joko Widodo's administration. This research finds that Indonesia in facing key security issues in the region under the administration of Joko Widodo is acting as a middle power who acts as a leader and provides consensus building and deliberations to gather collective opinions, on the other hand, Indonesia is still following ASEAN way of non-interference where it is constructed through time in the history of Indonesia since the beginning of ASEAN./Tesis ini akan mengeksplorasi lebih jauh tentang sudut pandang kepemimpinan pemerintahan Joko Widodo terhadap isu-isu keamanan utama di ASEAN. Tujuan dari tesis ini adalah untuk memberikan gambaran bagaimana pemerintahan Joko Widodo mewakili Indonesia sebagai salah satu negara terkemuka di ASEAN dalam menanggapi isu-isu keamanan utama di kawasan, pada saat yang sama tesis ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran yang lebih baik. pandangan tentang cara kepemimpinan dapat mempengaruhi pengambilan keputusan yang akan membuat orang memilih pemimpin yang lebih baik di masa depan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis perilaku pemerintahan Joko Widodo terhadap isu keamanan ASEAN dan bagaimana sikap Indonesia di bawah kepemimpinan Joko Widodo terhadap mekanisme keamanan ASEAN. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori konstruktivisme untuk menggambarkan identitas Indonesia dan ASEAN dalam hal pendukung argumen. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan dengan metode penelitian deskriptif dengan membandingkan dan menganalisis literatur dan data pemerintah yang dikumpulkan. Hasil penelitian ini menyajikan isu-isu utama keamanan di ASEAN yang diakui oleh Indonesia dan reaksi Indonesia terhadap isu-isu utama tersebut seperti pada pemerintahan Joko Widodo. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Indonesia dalam menghadapi isu-isu keamanan utama di kawasan di bawah pemerintahan Joko Widodo bertindak sebagai kekuatan tengah yang bertindak sebagai pemimpin dan melakukan pembangunan konsensus dan musyawarah untuk mengumpulkan pendapat kolektif, di sisi lain, Indonesia adalah negara yang paling berpengaruh dalam hal ini. masih mengikuti cara non-intervensi ASEAN yang dibangun sepanjang sejarah Indonesia sejak awal berdirinya ASEAN.
