Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan teori semiotika C.S. Pierce dalam penampilan Sam Smith dan Kim Petras pada Grammy Awards 2023. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis semiotika untuk memahami dan menggali makna simbolis yang terkandung dalam penampilan kedua artis tersebut. Analisis dilakukan terhadap tanda-tanda, simbol-simbol, dan konteks sosial yang muncul dalam penampilan mereka. Analisis semiotika Pierce digunakan sebagai kerangka teoritis dalam penelitian ini. Teori semiotika ini mengkaji berbagai tanda dan simbol yang digunakan dalam komunikasi visual dan membantu mengungkapkan makna yang terkandung di dalamnya. Pendekatan ini memungkinkan kita untuk melihat bagaimana Sam Smith dan Kim Petras menggunakan tanda-tanda dan simbol-simbol dalam penampilan mereka untuk mengkomunikasikan pesan tertentu kepada penonton. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penampilan Sam Smith dan Kim Petras pada Grammy Awards 2023 memang mengandung elemen satanis seperti yang terlihat dari segi kostum maupun panggung. / This study aims to analyze the use of C.S. Pierce’s semiotic theory in the performance of Sam Smith and Kim Petras at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The study employs a qualitative method with a semiotic analysis approach to understand and explore the symbolic meanings embedded in the performances of both artists. The analysis focuses on the signs, symbols, and social contexts that emerge in their performances. Pierce’s semiotic analysis is utilized as the theoretical framework in this study. This semiotic theory examines various signs and symbols used in visual communication and helps to uncover the meanings contained within them. This approach enables us to observe how Sam Smith and Kim Petras employ signs and symbols in their performances to communicate specific messages to the audience. The findings of this study conclude that the performances of Sam Smith and Kim Petras at the 2023 Grammy Awards involve various satanic elements as seen in their costumes and stage setting.
