Abstract

Fenomena 9/11 atau biasa dikenal dengan War on Terror merupakan sebuah fenomena teror terbesar di Amerika Serikat yang terjadi pada 11 September 2001. Fenomena teror ini merupakan sebuah peledakan gedung World Trade Centre (WTC) di New York, Amerika Serikat yang diledakan oleh dua buah pesawat dan memakan banyak korban jiwa. Karena fenomena ini, banyak masyarakat Amerika yang menganut paham Islamophobia karena menganggap bahwa kejadian teror ini mengatasnamakan agama Islam. Banyak penduduk Amerika Serikat yang melakukan rasisme kepada negara-negara dengan mayoritas penduduk Islam, salah satunya adalah Indonesia sebagai negara dengan masyarakat pemeluk agama Islam di dunia. Untuk memperbaiki citra Indonesia yang rusak akibat fenomena War on Terror, Indonesia pun melakukan berbagai kerja sama dengan Amerika Serikat, salah satunya di bidang budaya. Berbagai diplomasi budaya dilakukan oleh Indonesia dan Amerika Serikat, khususnya melalui budaya tradisional khas Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Konstruktivisme konsep kepentingan nasional, intersubjective understanding, dan diplomasi budaya. Sebagai negara yang terkenal karena memiliki kebudayaan khas setiap daerah, Indonesia banyak mempromosikan kebudayaannya melalui beberapa festival di Amerika Serikat. Namun seiring berjalannya waktu dan pergeseran globalisasi, banyak kalangan muda yang lebih mengenal budaya populer, seperti musik pop, fashion, dan juga kuliner khas Indonesia. Budaya populer merupakan sebuah kebudayaan yang bisa mengubah pandangan dan diterima baik oleh masyarakat. Maka dari itu, selain melakukan diplomasi budaya tradisional, diplomasi budaya populer juga bisa dilakukan untuk memperbaiki citra Indonesia yang rusak di mata publik. / 9/11 phenomenon mostly known as War on Terror is the biggest terror phenomenon that ever happened in the United States of America on 11th September 2001. This phenomenon goes by the explosion of World Trade Centre (WTC) by two airplanes crash on the building and causes many deaths. By this phenomenon, many of American People adhere to Islamophobia because they think that this phenomenon happened by the name of Muslim religion. The residents of the United States of America carry out racism toward countries with the majority of Muslim population, including Indonesia, as one of the country with largest Muslim community in the world. This phenomenon has cause Indonesia’s image. And this research use Constructivism as International Relations theory, national interest, intersubjective understanding, and cultural diplomacy as the concept to repair the relations between Indonesia and the United States of America. Indonesia has carried out by diplomacy with America, especially in the field of culture. Various cultural diplomacies were carried out by Indonesia and the United States, especially through Indonesian culture. As a country that’s is famous for having unique cultures from each regions, Indonesia came out by traditional culture through several festivals that held on the United States of America. As time goes by and globalizations, the young generations are more familiar with the modern culture rather than the traditional one, one of the example is popular music, fashion brand, and culinary. Popular culture is the culture that can change people’s perspective and well received by society. Therefore, apart from carrying out traditional cultural diplomacy, modern culture diplomacy can also be carried out to repair Indonesia’s image in the eyes of the public.
