Abstract

Ren’Py game engine has been widely used to create games in the visual novel genre, leading to its reputation as a game engine primarily suited for visual novel games. However, Ren’Py game engine offers various features that can be utilized to develop games in genres other than visual novels. Ren’Py game engine provides a range of features that can be employed to develop games in genres such as fighting-RPG. Games developed using this engine can leverage features like timers, bars, screens, and other functionalities offered by Ren’Py. Consequently, systems for combat, training, blacksmithing, buffs, puzzles, maps, and progression can be created using the features and functions provided by the Ren’Py game engine. This allows for the development of a fighting RPG game using Ren’Py with satisfactory results. A fighting-RPG game titled "Sword & Shield: Parabellum" was successfully developed and tested using the GUESS questionnaire, as well as a one-sample t-test parametric analysis. The testing concluded that the developed game has 7 aspects or subscales with average scores above 4.44 which indicate "somewhat agree" or is considered satisfactory, and the composite satisfaction score for playing the game was determined to be 43.71 out of 56. However, there was one subscale with an average score below 4.44. Despite this, the results of the one-sample t-test concluded that this subscale still falls into the category of "somewhat agree" or is considered satisfactory. Therefore, it can be concluded that the fighting-RPG game developed using the Ren’Py game engine can be considered quite satisfactory, and can be accepted by its players.
