Abstract

The Nusa Dua ITDC./ Over-tourism causes a lot of tourism destinations to face environmental and socio-cultural impacts. Bali has suffered from the development of mass tourism characterized by water pollution, clean water shortage, environmental degradation of water vegetation damage, and sanitation issues. Thus, the efforts to encourage environmental sustainability and reverse the impacts are crucial. The urgency of water scarcity in Bali has started to rise due to the high population density and tourism facilities. Beside water exploitation, another problem from tourism arises regarding water pollution. This qualitative research aims to study the sustainable water management, focusing on their efforts, impacts, and awareness that are derived from minimizing water scarcity in an exclusive tourism compound consisting of 19 up-scale hotels in South Bali, The Nusa Dua ITDC. This research uses data collection methods of interview, observation, and documentation. The sampling method used is purposive sampling. ITDC as a corporation has provided assistance with an integrated wastewater treatment system for all hotels within the area. Each hotel also contributes to battle the environmental issue by implementing their own suitable and effective efforts. The impacts for the subjects within and around the tourism complex vary from positive to negative. Eventually, the high awareness of sustainable practices is shown and proven from these tourism actors regarding water management of The Nusa Dua ITDC.
