Abstract

Barbie is a fashion doll created by American entrepreneur Ruth Handler, produced by the American toy company Mattel, and launched in 1959 in 1945. The Barbie doll was born from the thoughts of Ruth Handler, her husband, and her colleagues. As a cultural icon, the Barbie doll has earned a special place in the hearts of all girls in the world based on what it represents. Since then, Barbie's identity has been to be a beautiful woman whose little girls want to dress in quality designer clothes. In its development, a Barbie film was made in 2023, and it turned out that the Barbie film in 2023 was identified as giving the impression of representing women from a different perspective. This is said to be different because the paradigm that has developed in society regarding the figure of women is often identical to the notion of patriarchy, where women are depicted as only being concerned with activities at home, such as cooking, caring for children, and doing other housework. This research analyzes the film Barbie 2023 from a feminist perspective using Naomi Wolf's theory, Michael Faucault's theory of patriarchy (power), and Ferdinand de Saussure's semiology analysis. This research resulted in the film Barbie 2023, which depicts the characteristics of modern feminism, namely power feminism. This research found various forms of power: (1) power in language, (2) feminine power, and (3) princess power. Apart from that, this research also found that this research found forms of power in various forms: (1) power in language, (2) feminine power, and (3) princess power. / Barbie adalah boneka fashion yang dibuat oleh pengusaha Amerika Ruth Handler, diproduksi oleh perusahaan mainan Amerika Mattel dan diluncurkan pada tahun 1959 di tahun 1945, boneka Barbie lahir dari pemikiran Ruth Handler dan suami serta rekan-rekan suaminya. Sebagai ikon budaya, boneka Barbie telah mendapatkan tempat tersendiri di hati seluruh anak perempuan di dunia berdasarkan apa yang diwakilinya. Sejak saat itu, identitas Barbie adalah menjadi seorang wanita cantik yang ingin didandani anak-anak perempuan kecil dengan pakaian berkualitas seperti buatan desainer. Pada perkembangannya, dibuatlah film Barbie di tahun 2023, dan ternyata film Barbie di tahun 2023 ini di identifikasi memberikan kesan representasi perempuan dari sudut pandang yang berbeda. Hal ini dikatakan berbeda sebab paradigma yang berkembang di masyarakat mengenai sosok perempuan seringkali identik dengan paham patriartki, dimana perempuan digambarkan hanya berkutat pada kegiatan di rumah, seperti: memasak, mengasuh anak dan melakukan pekerjaan rumah lainnya. Pada penelitian ini, Film Barbie 2023 dianalisis dari sudut pandang Feminisme menggunakan teori dari Naomi Wolf, Patriaki (kekuasaan) dari teori Michael Faucault dan analisis semiology dari Ferdinand de Saussure. Penelitian ini menghasilkan bahwb film Barbie 2023 ini menggambarkan ciri khas feminisme modern yaitu feminisme kekuasaan. Penelitian ini menemukan wujud kekuasaan dari berbagai bentuk: (1) kekuasaan dalam bahasa, (2) kekuasaan feminin, dan (3) kekuasaan putri. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa Penelitian ini menemukan wujud kekuasaan dari berbagai bentuk: (1) kekuasaan dalam bahasa, (2) kekuasaan feminin, dan (3) kekuasaan putri.
