Abstract

As a mass educator and source of information and entertainment, media is widely used by everyone in their daily lives. Without much awareness, people deem media as factual knowledge and unable to recognize what the media represents. Moreover, media is also seen as a reflection of society and escape from reality, therefore, it leads to the creation of superhero characters as a role model. Media is evolving into being more inclusive towards women, and with feminism, in fighting for equal representations. Many film studies are done as it acknowledges how it instills ideologies and beliefs to audiences. With that, the film Captain Marvel shows generating the issues with representation of feminism and criticizing the issue as this film is seen as a reflection of society. Moreover, in hopes to bring light to the issues, Captain Marvel desires to show feminism, especially power feminism, in her character. With that, the researcher studied the feminism values by Naomi Wolf, that are instilled in this movie with semiotic analysis by Charles Sanders Peirce, how the character reacted through her body language and verbal messages, when she was challenged by society standards and how feminism is represented in the movie. / Sebagai pendidik massa dan sumber informasi dan hiburan, media digunakan oleh semua orang dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mereka. Tanpa kesadaran, orang menganggap media sebagai pengetahuan faktual dan tidak mampu mengenali apa yang direpresentasi media. Selain itu, media juga dilihat sebagai cerminan masyarakat dan untuk melarikan diri dari kenyataan, oleh karena itu, hal ini menuju pada penciptaan karakter superhero sebagai panutan. Media berproses untuk berkembang menjadi lebih inklusif terhadap perempuan dan dengan feminism, untuk memperjuangkan representasi yang setara. Banyak studi film dilakukan karena mengakui bagaimana film menanamkan ideologi dan kepercayaan kepada penonton. Dengan itu, film Captain Marvel menunjukkan cerminan masalah dengan representasi feminisme dan mengkritik masalah karena film ini dipandang sebagai cerminan masyarakat. Selain itu, dengan harapan dapat menjelaskan masalah ini, Captain Marvel ingin menunjukkan feminisme, terutama power feminism, dalam karakternya sendiri. Dengan itu, peneliti ingin mempelajari nilai-nilai feminisme oleh Naomi Wolf, yang ditanamkan dalam film ini dengan analisis semiotik oleh Charles Sanders Peirce, bagaimana karakter bereaksi melalui bahasa tubuh dan pesan verbal, ketika dia ditantang oleh standar masyarakat dan bagaimana feminisme itu terwakili dalam film.
