Abstract

Background: Dyspepsia is a collection of clinical complaints / symptoms consisting of discomfort / pain in the upper abdomen that persist or recur. Uninvestigated dyspepsia (UD) generally refers to new or frequently experienced symptoms of dyspepsia but has never been investigated or examined before. UD global prevalence varies between 7% and 45% in epidemiological studies. Some studies say there is a relationship between body mass index (BMI) with dyspepsia but the results are still conflicting. Objective: This research was conducted to investigate the relationship between BMI and univestigated dyspepsia among adults in Indonesia. Method: This study uses a cross sectional study design. The research be conducted at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan and Siloam Karawaci General Hospital. The study be conducted in January to July 2018. Samples are students at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan and patients at Siloam Karawaci General Hospital from January to July 2018 aged 18-64 years. Researchers taking data on UD by distributing questionnaires based on Rome Criteria III to be filled by samples. The statistical test used is Chi-Square or Fisher exact SPSS Statistics V23.0. Results: This study found prevalence of uninvestigated dyspepsia to be 60.1% in Universitas Pelita Harapan Faculty of Medicine and Siloam Karawaci General Hospital. This study also found a statistically significant relationship (p 0.007) between high BMI and uninvestigated dyspepsia with odds ratio 2.674 (95% CI 1.303 – 5.488. Conclusions: There is significant relationship between high BMI and uninvestigated dyspepsia in the adult population / Latar belakang: Dispepsia merupakan kumpulan keluhan/gejala klinis yang terdiri dari rasa tidak enak/sakit di perut bagian atas yang menetap atau mengalami kekambuhan.
