Abstract

The journey of Phytospatial’s research project until the exhibition at kopimanyar has brought an inspiration to dig deeper into the study of plants. Looking to its history, plants were first used as a subject separated from the interior world. Ongoing to the era where plants starts to immerse into the world of interior as a decorative element. People start to use plants for aesthectics visuals, medicines, and more. Now there are more studies looking for more possibilities in utilizing plants even further in the world of architecture and interior. Specifically as an alternative of interior elements, which are floor, wall, and roof. Interior elements floor, wall, and roof, are the three main components in creating a space. The purpose is to build a boundary for a living space. Up to this point, buildings are created using non-living materials, such as cement, sands, woods gypsum, creamics, etc. in creating these 3 interior elements. This explorative research has a goal in experimenting and looking at another capabilities of living materials as a building element. Research is done with an explorative approach. The exploration of plants as an alternative to interior elements needed a strong foundation of knowledge. Therefore, case studies that has experimented on this topic really helps to build a strong foundation. Case studies shows different treatments of plants, the reason behind a project, techniques, and kinds of plants to use. This weapon of knowledge supports the research to find more advance and new alternatives that is possible to do than what has been done.
