Abstract

Urban Heat Island (UHI) refers to a phenomenon when urban areas experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas. UHI has become one of the most significant problems in densely populated urban areas. This has an impact on the people living in the affected areas. UHI not only has a major impact on human health and well-being, but it can also disrupt the balance of socio-economic sectors. The amount of heat generated in urban areas is a major contributor to the UHI phenomenon, caused by these areas absorbing heat radiation and re-emitting the heat produced by buildings, roads, and other city surfaces. The city of Jakarta has experienced rapid population growth and urbanization in recent years. Mitigating the impact of UHI in Jakarta is urgent because it has a significant impact on the welfare of the city's residents and their desires in the long term. Transit-oriented development is an urban planning concept and design approach focusing on creating sustainable, livable, and efficient communities around public transportation centers. Dukuh Atas was chosen as the study area because Dukuh Atas has challenges associated with the UHI effect, and is located in the TOD area. The bioclimatic concept is one approach that can be taken to overcome UHI. Bioclimatic is an architecture that utilizes and responds to local climate conditions. This research aims to design housing in the Dukuh Atas TOD area which highlights practical steps that can be taken to overcome the negative impacts of UHI.
