Abstract

Background : Some studies suggest, women in the reproductive age often occurs problems with menstruation, such as premenstrual syndrome and irregular menstruation. There are many things that can affect the menstrual cycle, including nutritional status, diet, family economic status, and sports activities. The most commonly performed parameter to measure fat in the human body is the body mass index. Therefore, research is needed to prevent complications from menstrual cycle disturbance in the future. Methods : This survey study was analitic observational used a cross sectionalcase control design. The selection of 62 subjects was performed by body massa index obesity with menstrual cycle disturbances and 62 subjects was performed by body massa index normal with menstrual cycle disturbances as an control . Results : The result of chi square test with confidence level of 95% obtained p value = 0,000 (p <0,05). From result of statistic test obtained by following result, excess body weight in menstruation cycle group and without interruption menstrual cycle group case that is disruption of menstrual cycle most in obese as much as 53 student (85,5%), the rest on normal body mass index as much 14 student (22,6%). Whereas in uninterrupted menstrual cycle, the proportion of obesity were 9 female students (14.5%), the remaining 48 female (77.4%) in normal body mass index There was a positive relationship between Body Mass Index with menstrual cycle disorder, so it can be said that Body Mass Index has a statistically significant relationship to menstrual cycle disorders. Conclusions : Both of obesity and stress were associated with having menstrual cycle disturbances in young adult women / Tujuan penelitian: Untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan antara Indeks massa tubuh dengan gangguan siklus menstrasi pada mahasiswi FK-UPH.
