Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the non-communicable diseases that continues to increase. In 2021, the number of diabetes sufferers in Indonesia will be 19.47 million. In 2020, the Banten Provincial Health Service stated that there were 69,500 diabetes mellitus patients spread across 29 sub-districts in Tangerang. The research was conducted in January - March 2024, with the aim of looking at the level of medication adherence for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the "XYZ" Tangerang Health Center and the influence of the level of medication adherence for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients on blood sugar control which will be analyzed using the chi-square statistical test. This research is a prospective cross-sectional study. Sampling used a total sampling technique with a total research sample of 45 samples. In the research, the instrument used to assess medication adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was the MMAS-8 (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) questionnaire which has been validated. Patients who receive an MMAS-8 score < 6 (low compliance) will be given an additional questionnaire to determine the reasons for non-compliance. The compliance level profile of respondents at the "XYZ" Community Health Center mostly had a medium level of compliance of 17 respondents (37.78%), a high level of compliance of 13 respondents (28.89%), and a low level of compliance of 15 respondents (33.33%). The chi-square statistical test obtained a p-value (0.005), which means there is a significant relationship between the level of medication adherence and blood sugar control.
