Abstract

High level of stress, anxiety and depression have been reported in medical students around the world primarily among first-years. Anxiety and depression can impede the learning process and affect academic achievement. To determine the differences of anxiety and depression score between first-year and second-year medical students in Pelita Harapan University, it is important to do this study. This study applies a descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study approach. The sample of this study consists of 60 first-year students and 52 second-year students in the Medical Faculty of Pelita Harapan University. Instrument used to measure anxiety level is Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and to measure depression level is Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Data obtained from this study was analysed using Chi-square method. The conclusion of this study is that there is no significant differences of anxiety and depression levels between first-year and second-year of medical students of Pelita Harapan University, however, first-year medical students have more tendency to develop anxiety compared to the second-years / Tingkat stres, ansietas dan depresi yang cukup tinggi pada mahasiswa kedokteran terutama mahasiswa tahun pertama. Ansietas dan depresi dapat mempengaruhi proses belajar dan prestasi akademik mahasiswa. Untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan skor tingkat ansietas dan depresi pada mahasiswa kedokteran tahun pertama dan tahun kedua Universitas Pelita Harapan, maka penelitian ini perlu untuk dilakukan Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif-analitik dengan desain studi potong lintang.. Data terdiri dari 60 mahasiswa tahun pertama dan 52 mahasiswa tahun kedua fakultas kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan dan diambil pada tahun 2018. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam pengukuran tingkat ansietas adalah kuesioner Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), dan yang digunakan dalam pengukuran tingkat depresi adalah kuesioner Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Hasil dianalisis menggunakan uji Chi-square. Dari hasil penelitian, tidak terdapat perbedaan tingkat ansietas dan depresi yang signifikan antara mahasiswa kedokteran tahun pertama dan kedua. Namun dibanding mahasiswa tahun kedua, mahasiswa tahun pertama cenderung untuk memiliki ansietas.
