Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi khususnya internet, memberikan dampak yang signifikan dalam kehidupan Masyarakat termasuk di kalangan siswa SMA yang umumnya adalah generasi Z. salah satu fenomena yang banyak menyita perhatian adalah hadirnya game online, seperti Mobile Legends yang tidak hanya sebagai sarana hiburan tetapi juga sebagai sarana komunikasi dan representasi identitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana kontribusi komunikasi virtual dan pemilihan hero dalam game Mobile Legends terhadap representasi identitas pemain. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus yang melibatkan empat siswa di SMAN 1 Tahuna. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komunikasi yang efektif dalam game memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap representasi identitas pemain, sebaliknya komunikasi yang kurang efektif dapat menyebabkan konflik dan representasi identitas yang negative. Kemudian, pemilihan hero memberikan dimensi tambahan untuk memvisualisasikan identitas yang direpresentasikan pemain. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi pada pemahaman representasi identitas dalam game online dan dapat menjadi masukan bagi para pengembang game untuk meningkatkan fitur-fitur dalam game. / The advancement of technology, particulary the internet, has a profound impact on the lives of individuals, including those in their teenage years who are often referred to as members of Generation Z. One phenomenon that has attracted considerable attention is the prevalence of online games, such as Mobile Legends, wich serve not simply as an entertainment but also as a medium for communication and the representation of identity. This study aims to analyze how the virtual communication and hero selection in the Mobile Legends game impact the representation of player identity. The research method adopts a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving four students at SMAN 1 Tahuna. The research concludes that effective communication has a positive impact on the players identity representation, where as inffective communication can lead to conflict and a negative identity representation. In addition, hero selection provides a further dimension through which the identity represented by the player can be visualized. This research is expected to contribute to the understanding of identity representation in online games and to provide insights for game developers seeking to enchane in game feature.
