Abstract

Campuran aspal pada konstruksi jalan raya mayoritas menggunakan agregat dan bitumen. Bitumen berperan sebagai bahan hidrokarbon yang memiliki sifat melekat (adhesive), viskoelastik, lunak dan mencair bila dipanaskan, untuk itu diperlukan upaya untuk meningkatkan mutu bitumen. Penggunaan bitumen pada campuran aspal yang berkualitas kurang baik dapat menyebabkan terjadi masalah dalam campuran aspal, sehingga dapat menyebabkan kerusakan seperti terjadinya retak dan terkelupas. Penyebab kerusakan bitumen dapat disebabkan oleh faktor cuaca, penggunaan muatan yang berlebihan dan lain-lain. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya alternatif untuk meminimalkan kerusakan pada campuran aspal yang berkaitan dengan karakteristik bitumen modifikasi polimer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh bitumen yang dimodifikasi polimer terhadap karakteristik, dan pengaruh sulfur powder terhadap stabilitas penyimpanan. Modifikasi bitumen dilakukan dengan menggunakan polimer SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene), HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) dan karet ban bekas. Sampel benda uji dibagi dalam dua bagian masing-masing 5% polimer tanpa menggunakan sulfur powder dan menggunakan sulfur powder sebanyak 0,3%. Pengujian terdiri dari uji penetrasi, uji daktilitas, uji berat jenis dan uji titik lembek. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh pengaruh dari bitumen modifikasi polimer menggunakan 0,3% sulfur powder yang memperbaiki karakteristik bitumen dari ketiga sampel yaitu SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) memenuhi standar bina marga pada tiga pengujian diantaranya pengujian daktilitas, berat jenis dan titik lembek. Penambahan 0,3% sulfur powder lebih dominan memperbaiki karakteristik bitumen, pada sampel SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene), sedangkan terhadap sampel bitumen modifikasi polimer HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) dan karet ban bekas tidak memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap perbaikan karakteristik dan stabilitas penyimpanan. / Asphalt mixtures in highway construction mostly use aggregates and bitumen. Bitumen acts as a hydrocarbon material that has adhesive, viscoelastic, soft and melting properties when heated, therefore efforts are needed to improve bitumen quality. The use of bitumen in poor quality asphalt mixtures can cause problems in the asphalt mixture, which can cause damage such as cracking and peeling. The cause of bitumen damage can be caused by weather factors, excessive load usage and others. Therefore, alternative efforts are needed to minimize damage to asphalt mixtures related to the characteristics of polymer modified bitumen. This study aims to determine the effect of polymer modified bitumen on characteristics, and the effect of sulfur powder on storage stability. Bitumen modification was carried out using polymers SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene), HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and used tire rubber. The test samples were divided into two parts of 5% polymer without sulfur powder and 0.3% sulfur powder. The tests consisted of penetration test, ductility test, specific gravity test and softening point test. From the results of the study, it was found that the effect of polymer modified bitumen using 0.3% sulfur powder improved the bitumen characteristics of the three samples, namely SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) meeting the standards of Bina Marga in three tests including ductility, specific gravity and softening point tests. The addition of 0.3% sulfur powder is more dominant in improving bitumen characteristics, in the SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) sample, while the HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) polymer modified bitumen sample and used tire rubber did not have a significant impact on improving characteristics and storage stability.
