Abstract

Indonesian identity formation is important because during the Soeharto era, Indonesia’s image was seen poorly by the international community. This is due to various conflicts and irregular governance. Therefore, by using the theory of constructivism, Indonesia is trying to obtain a new identity through the foreign policy of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo. One effort to restore Indonesia's identity is tourism. Tourism is part of economic diplomacy which is the focus of the government to restore Indonesia's image. Various development programs and the promotion of nation branding "Wonderful Indonesia" continuously developed by the government, in this case the Ministry of Tourism which coordinates and collaborates with other government agencies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and private companies. Tourism diplomacy is also intensively carried out by the government and other countries to achieve Indonesia's goal of restoring identity through tourism. The question of the problem has been answered, namely the government's efforts and coordination to improving and promoting Indonesia's tourism nation branding. This is a qualitative research by using historical comparison and policy studies methods. The data collected comes from a literature study. Data analysis was performed by time allocation analysis and mindmap. The results of this study prove that Indonesia can restore its national identity through tourism promotion and development. This success can be realized from various foreign policies of Indonesia and the cooperation of countries to promote tourism as nation's branding, namely "Wonderful Indonesia". / Pembentukan identitas Indonesia adalah hal yang penting karena pada masa pemerintahan Presiden Soeharto, citra Indonesia dilihat buruk oleh dunia internasional. Hal ini dikarenakan berbagai konflik dan tata pemerintahan yang tidak teratur. Oleh karena itu, dengan menggunakan teori konstruktvisme, Indonesia berusaha memperoleh identitas yang baru melalui kebijakan luar negeri Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono dan Joko Widodo. Salah satu usaha untuk memulihkan identitas Indonesia yaitu pariwisata. Pariwisata adalah bagian dari diplomasi ekonomi yang menjadi fokus pemerintahan untuk memulihkan citra Indonesia. Berbagai program pembangunan dan promosi nation branding “Wonderful Indonesia” terus dikembangkan oleh pemerintah, dalam hal ini Kementerian Pariwisata yang berkoordinasi dan bekerja sama dengan instansi pemerintah lain seperti Kementerian Luar Negeri serta perusahaan swasta. Diplomasi pariwisata juga gencar dilakukan pemerintah dengan negara-negara lain untuk mencapai tujuan Indonesia yaitu memulihkan identitas melalui pariwisata. Pertanyaan masalah telah terjawab yaitu upaya dan koordinasi pemerintah dalam meningkatkan dan mempromosikan nation branding pariwisata Indonesia. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode perbandingan sejarah dan studi kebijakan. Data yang dikumpulkan berasal dari studi kepustakaan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan time allocation analysis dan mindmap. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa Indonesia dapat memulihkan identitas nasionalnya melalui peningkatan dan promosi pariwisata. Keberhasilan ini dapat terwujud dari berbagai kebijakan luar negeri Indonesia dan atas kerja sama dari negara-negara untuk mengangkat nation branding pariwisata yaitu “Wonderful Indonesia”.
