Abstract

Monitoring system is so important to figure out whether a system or an organization is on the right track and doing what is suppose to be done or not. Monitoring can provide information and insight for us that can be used for future development. In order to improve services for students of Universitas Pelita Harapan, Faculty of Computer Science built a monitoring system to monitor the lecture activities The monitoring system built is expected to be able to monitor the disciplines in lectures time. To reach that need, a computer based monitoring system is created, that can record the lecturer’s presence time and which is also able to give reports as the output. The monitoring system consists of a database that is built using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition software and a user interface program that is built using Visual Basic .NET 2005 software. As an addition, Crystal Report software is used to produce the reports. The monitoring system built is able to meet the need of Faculty of Computer Science in Universitas Pelita Harapan to monitor the lecturer’s disciplines in lectures time, and to give reports about the information gathered. The system built is user friendly with some error handling included, but unfortunately there are still some disadvantages. The reports produced are only text based, and still there is not enough data processing. For future development, it can be considered to add a feature to monitor the student’s presence in lecture activities, and also a security feature to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the system.
