Abstract

One of the factors which underlies the fact that Christianity is the largest religion in the world is the obligation carried by Christians to do evangelization. Evangelization is the spread of Christianity teachings throughout the world through communication. With differences in various aspects of life, the spread of Christianity becomes a challenging task. Some obstacles and challenges will be faced by evangelists throughout their missions. This research is a qualitative one with an aim to identify the challenges that arise in the process of delivering the gospel in Alor by using a descriptive approach. In the case of evangelism in Alor, the fact that Alor people still believed in the occult and carried out their rituals resulting in an intercultural evangelization phenomenon. As a result, challenges such as rejection, prejudice, ethnocentrism, and misunderstanding cannot be avoided. In addition to that, poor geographical conditions and low levels of education also pose challenges in evangelizing to Alor people. The majority of people in Alor can speak two languages (bilingual). So although Alor has more than 40 regional languages, the majority of the population can speak and understand Indonesian perfectly which means language problems were not found. / Salah satu faktor yang melatarbelakangi pernyataan bahwa agama Kristen adalah agama terbesar di dunia adalah adanya kewajiban untuk melakukan evangelisasi yang dimiliki oleh para penganut agama Kristen. Evangelisasi adalah suatu aktivitas penyebaran ajaran agama Kristen ke seluruh penjuru dunia melalui proses komunikasi. Dengan adanya perbedaan di berbagai aspek kehidupan, penyebaran ajaran agama Kristen menjadi suatu tugas yang tidak mudah. Beberapa hambatan dan tantangan akan dihadapi oleh para penginjil. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan tujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tantangan apa saja yang muncul dalam proses penyampaian injil di Alor dengan menggunakan metodologi penilitan deskriptif. Dalam kasus penginjilan di Alor, fakta bahwa masyarakat Alor masih mempercayai okultisme dan menjalankan ritual kepercayaannya menjadikan adanya fenomena penginjilan antar-budaya. Alhasil, tantangan seperti penolakkan terhadap ajaran Injil, prasangka buruk, etnosentrisme, dan kesalahpahaman tidak dapat dihindari. Selain itu, kondisi geografis yang kurang baik serta level edukasi masyarakat yang rendah juga menjadi tantangan tersendiri dalam penginjilan di Alor. Mayoritas masyarakat di Alor dapat berbicara dua bahasa (bilingual), sehingga walaupun Alor memiliki lebih dari 40 bahasa daerah, mayoritas penduduknya dapat berbicara dan mengerti Bahasa Indonesia secara sempurna, sehingga tantangan dalam berbahasa tidak terjumpai.
