Abstract

Lingkungan kerja dalam bidang pelayanan sosial menempatkan perawat rumah sakit pada situasi yang memiliki beban emosi tertentu dan dapat mengakibatkan emotional exhaustion. Emotional exhaustion merupakan hasil berkurangnya sumber daya yang disebabkan oleh akumulasi stres di tempat kerja secara terus menerus. Untuk mencapai tingkat emotional exhaustion yang rendah diperlukan coping strategies yang efektif. Coping strategies adalah usaha kognitif dan perilaku untuk mengatur tuntutan yang dinilai melebihi sumber daya pribadi, terbagi menjadi problem-focused coping dan emotion-focused coping. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi pengaruh coping strategies terhadap emotional exhaustion pada perawat rumah sakit. Partisipan terdiri dari 68 perawat yang telah mengisi kuesioner Maslach Burnout Inventory sebagai instrumen pengukuran emotional exhaustion, dan Ways of Coping Questionnaire sebagai instrumen pengukuran coping strategies. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh problem-focused coping terhadap emotional exhaustion (β= -.252, p< .05), dan tidak terdapat korelasi antara emotion-focused coping dan emotional exhaustion (r = .018, p > .05). Hal ini dapat dijelaskan dengan tujuan masing-masing jenis coping. Problem-focused coping berupaya untuk mengatasi sumber masalah, sehingga rasa stres tidak terakumulasi dan membuat tingkat emotional exhaustion rendah. Sedangkan emotion-focused coping berupaya meregulasi reaksi emosi suatu masalah yang dapat dikatakan sebagai efek dari emotional exhaustion, sehingga penggunaan jenis coping ini tidak menentukan tingkat emotional exhaustion.
