Abstract
Icik embroidery is one of the local cultural heritages in Kudus, Central Java. The strengths of this embroidery lay upon its detailed, densed, and smooth result, as it is remain done by manual sewing machine. Yet, its existence is now threatened because of the replacement of electric sewing machine and computerized embroidery machine. The lack of appreciation is also a factor that causes the Icik embroidery threat; therefore, there is no part taken by the younger Icik embroidery craftsmen in using the traditional method which resulting in their extinguished future existence. Whereas there is actually a huge opportunity projected by the Icik embroidery to be expanded widely. Beside of the exclusive value appraised through its complicated sequel of process making activity, which embarked at the consumption of compulsory big amount of time, Icik embroidery also possessed a cultural value that must be preserved. By this designation, it is expected that appreciation towards the icik embroidery is rising as well as its innovation upon this product. Hence, the existence of icik embroidery could be survived. The approach of this design is fashion product, which is bag because it is rarely produced by most of Icik embroidery entrepreneur nowadays. Moreover bag also possessed economical value that could uphold the exclusivity of icik embroidery. The designation process began with observation to the icik embroidery production places and also doing interview with some of icik embroidery entrepreneurs as well as its craftmen. Along with it, added value to icik embroidery through alternative materials experiment has also been done, also data support collecting from a wide range of sources
