Abstract
Korean wave is a blend of traditional South Korean culture with pop culture that is presented in the form of drama (K-drama) and music (K-pop). Korean wave has attracted the attention of people from various countries, one of which is Indonesia and has become one of the popular culture that is able to compete with Western culture. This study aims to find out the K-Popers' (K-Pop fans) self-presentation when using Korean (Hangeul). This study uses a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative approach. Dramaturgy theory from Erving Goffman used to this research. The results showed that the participants involved in this study studied Hangeul in a self-taught manner and had the same motivation in studying Hangeul, which was interested in the world of Korean entertainment and culture. The participants made Instagram a front stage self presentation room through the use of Hangeul. The expectation is the emergence of the impression that they are the same as other Korean lovers who can speak foreign languages (Korean), similar to native Koreans, can show their identity as fans of Korean idols. Very inversely proportional to the back stage of the participants that actually can not speak Korean and rely on translator media (Google Translate) to translate the caption into Korean. This shows the existence of a different self presentation at the front stage and back stage.
