Abstract

A lot of research has been done to determine if handwriting or typing note influenced short-term memory, however, the results obtained are still controversial. Therefore this study is structured to see the effect of note taking methods by handwriting and typing on short-term memory. The aims of this study were to increase the performance of students in Faculty of Medicine Pelita Harapan University as well as providing the right and effective method of taking notes. Experimental study design was chosen in this study. Study population is students of faculty of medicine Pelita Harapan Uviversity. 40 samples will be divide randomly into two, one group will take a note by handwriting and another by typing. Each group is required to watch a video about 15 minutes long. The results were analyzed statistically using T-test. The average of new information that can be remembered by group that take a note by handwriting significantly (p<0,05) higher than group than take a note by typing with a p-value of 0,009 / Banyak penelitian yang sudah dilakukan untuk melihat bagaimana pengaruh metode mencatat terhadap memori jangka pendek, namun, hasil yang didapatkan masih kontroversial. Kontroversi ini mendorong peneliti untuk melihat bagaimana pengaruh metode mencatat dengan menulis dan mengetik terhadap memori jangka pendek. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan nilai mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan serta memberikan solusi metode mencatat yang tepat dan efektif. Desain penelitian yang digunakan dalam studi ini adalah studi eksperimental. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Sampel sejumlah 40 sampel dibagi secara acak dalam dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok yang mencatat dengan metode mengetik dan kelompok yang mencatat dengan metode menulis. Setiap kelompok diminta untuk menonton video kurang lebih 15 menit. Hasil penelitian dianalisa secara statistik menggunakan metode T-test. Jumlah rata-rata informasi baru yang dapat diingat kelompok yang mencatat dengan metode menulis secara signifikan (p<0,05) lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok yang mencatat dengan metode mengetik dengan p-value sebesar 0,009.
