Abstract

Dalam dunia konstruksi, tanah yang berada di sebuah area bangunan diharapkan dapat menahan beban bangunan yang dibangun di atas tanah tersebut. Pada kenyataannya tanah memiliki kekuatan yang beragam dan mungkin tidak ideal untuk sebuah bangunan konstruksi, salah satunya adalah tanah ekspansif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi potensi pengembangan dan memperbaiki kekuatan tanah ekspansif. Perbaikan ini dilakukan dengan metode biogrouting menggunakan bakteri Bacillus amyloliquefaciens yang dibiakkan dalam medium kultur B4. Medium kultur B4 pada penelitian ini menggunakan sumber kalsium alternatif bubuk cangkang kerang menggantikan kalsium asetat yang merupakan barang impor dan harganya relatif mahal. Sampel uji tanah yang telah diberi medium kultur cair bakteri dipelihara selama 30, 60, 90, dan 120 hari. Kekuatan tanah diuji dengan uji direct shear, uji triaxial unconsolidated undrained, uji triaxial consolidated undrained, dan uji unconfined compression. Hasilnya pada masa pemeliharaan 90 hari, terjadi peningkatan nilai kohesi sebesar 261% pada uji direct shear, sebesar 320% pada uji triaxial unconsolidated undrained, sebesar 113% pada uji triaxial consolidated undrained, dan peningkatan kekuatan tekan bebas sebesar 214% pada uji unconfined compression. Tingkat ekspansif tanah diuji dengan uji batas cair, uji batas plastis, dan uji Free Swell Index. Hasilnya pada hari ke 120 terjadi pengurangan nilai batas cair sebesar 13,9%, nilai indeks plastisitas sebesar 24,5%, dan nilai free swell index sebesar 66,7%, menurunkan tingkat ekspansifitas tanah menjadi medium. / In the world of construction, the soil in an area of building is expected to withstand the load of structure above. Soil has varying strengths and may not be ideal for a construction building, one of which is expansive soil. This study aimed to reduce the level of expansion and improve the strength of expansive soil. This improvement is done by biogrouting method using Bacillus amyloliquefaciens bacteria grown in B4 culture medium. B4 culture medium in this study used alternative calcium sources of seashell powder replacing calcium acetate which is an imported item with relatively expensive. The test samples that had been given bacterial liquid culture medium were maintained for 30, 60, 90, and 120 days. Soil strength was tested by direct shear test, triaxial unconsolidated undrained test, triaxial consolidated undrained test, and unconfined compression test. The result for 90-days maintenance period is an increase in cohesion value of 261% in the direct shear test, 320% in the triaxial unconfined undrained test, 113% in the triaxial consolidated undrained test and an increase in unconfined compressive strength of 214% in the unconfined compression test. Soil level of expansion was tested by liquid limit test, plastic limit test, and free swell index test. The result for 120-days, is a decrease in liquid limit value of 13.9%, plasticity index value of 24.5%, and free swell index value of 66.7%, decreasing the degree of expansion of the soil to medium.
