Abstract

Interpersonal communication competence is essential for medical students to possess. It is crucial in the process of providing information and gathering information about the patient involved. A communication may shift into a one-sided interaction if one of the parties involved possess trait narcissism that shows selfcenteredness with an inflated view of themselves. This research was done to find out whether trait narcissism has an effect on interpersonal communication competence. The data was collected using online questionnaires that is distributed to active medical students in either their academic or profession phase. The data was first analyzed for validity, reliability and followed by simple regression analysis. The result shows that trait narcissism does have a significant effect on interpersonal communication competence. The effect was a positive effect where when trait narcissism increases, interpersonal communication competence follows. / Kompetensi komunikasi interpersonal sangat penting untuk dimiliki oleh mahasiswa kedokteran. Kompetensi komunikasi interpersonal sangat penting dalam proses memberikan informasi dan mengumpulkan informasi tentang pasien yang terlibat. Suatu komunikasi dapat berubah menjadi interaksi satu sisi jika salah satu pihak yang terlibat memiliki trait narcissism yang menunjukkan sikap mementingkan diri sendiri dengan pandangan yang meningkat tentang diri mereka sendiri. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah trait narcissism berpengaruh terhadap kompetensi komunikasi interpersonal. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner online yang didistribusikan kepada mahasiswa kedokteran yang aktif baik dalam fase akademik maupun profesi. Data pertama kali dianalisis untuk validitas, reliabilitas dan diikuti oleh analisis regresi sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sifat narsisme memang berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kompetensi komunikasi interpersonal. Efeknya adalah efek positif di mana ketika trait narcissism meningkat, kompetensi komunikasi interpersonal juga meningkat.
