Abstract

With the ongoing technology and emergence of participatory culture media such as YouTube, there are many opportunities created. These opportunities in sharing messages and representing themselves through a video blogger. The self-representation has shown many aspects of the social actor that includes their daily life style to the ideology they held. Barbie vlog shows one of the self-representation where the social actor is an extension from a doll towards the form of posthuman. Her self as posthuman generating the issues regarding feminism, one of the critical theory that is mostly used in criticising the values within Barbie doll. By speaking up to the audience through YouTube, Barbie wanted to show the feminism values that she had. To prove the feminism values that instilled within the video, researcher uses semiotic analysis by Saussure. How she feels about it when Barbie speaks of the feminism issues and how she portrays it in her vlog. / Perkembangan teknologi menghasilkan sebuah kultur berpartisipasi dan salah satunya merupakan YouTube, yang mana kultur itu juga menghadirkan kesempatan. Kesempatan yang dimaksud merupakan penyampaian pesan yang berfungsi sebagai bentuk representasi diri melalui sebuah video blogger. Representasi diri mencangkup berbagai aspek dari aktor sosial, seperti hal-hal kesehariannya sampai pada ideologi yang dipegang oleh sang aktor sosial tersebut. Barbie vlog merupakan salah satu bentuk representasi diri yang mana aktor sosial yang ditampilkan merupakan bentuk boneka yang diadaptasikan menjadi bentuk posthuman. Diri Barbie sebagai posthuman mempermasalahkan isu-isu feminis, salah satu teori kritis yang banyak digunakan untuk mengkritik nilai-nilai dalam Barbie itu sendiri. Dengan membicarakannya kepada audiens di YouTube, Barbie ingin menunjukkan nilai-nilai feminis yang dimilikinya. Untuk membuktikan nilai-nilai dalam video tersebut, peneliti menggunakan analisa semiotika dari Saussure. Tentang perasaan Barbie dalam membicarakan isu tersebut dan bagaimana ia menggambarkannya dalam vlognya.
