Abstract

Indonesia is a diverse country with different variety of cultures and beliefs. However, the diversity in Indonesia is never fully free from conflicts, particularly ones concerning the matter of tolerance towards religions and belief which is worsening day by day. Those problems were captured by musicians, who made songs about them to describe and criticize or emphasize the occuring problems. Barasuara is one of them. With their song titled Hagia and Masa Mesias-Mesias, they tried to describe the current situation of tolerance. The song act as satirical provocation to the modern society to inrease their sense of tolerance and respect for others. For this reason, research is needed to know what is the meaning of tolerance behind the song Hagia and Masa Mesias-Mesias. This research uses Ferdinand de Saussure Semiotics Theory, and uses interpretative qualitative perspective with content analysis method. Data collection is carried out through document study and literature study. The result of this research show that the meaning of tolerance in the lyric and chord of Hagia and Masa Mesias-Mesias is described as a freedom, hope, and resistance. / Indonesia adalah negara majemuk dengan beragam kebudayaan dan kepercayaan yang berbeda. Namun keberagaman tersebut tidak pernah lepas dari adanya konflik dan permasalahan, khususnya permasalahan mengenai toleransi beragama yang semakin memburuk. Permasalahan toleransi tersebut ditangkap oleh musisi, yang kemudian diolah sebagai media untuk menggambarkan dan mengkritik atau menyindir permasalahan yang terjadi. Salah satu musisi tersebut adalah Barasuara yang dengan lagunya berjudul Hagia dan Masa Mesias-Mesias mencoba untuk menggambarkan situasi toleransi saat ini. Lagu tersebut merupakan suatu ajakan, juga sindiran kepada masyarakat untuk semakin meningkatkan sikap toleransi dan menghargai perbedaan. Untuk itulah diperlukan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui makna toleransi dalam lagu Hagia dan Masa Mesias-Mesias. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure, dan menggunakan perspektif kualitatif interpretatif dengan metode penelitian analisis isi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan dokumentasi dan studi kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa makna toleransi dalam lagu Hagia dan Masa Mesias-Mesias digambarkan sebagai suatu kebebasan, harapan, dan perlawanan, yang digambarkan dalam lirik dan akord lagu.
