Abstract

In some countries, including Indonesia, hypertension case is fairly high. The total number of hypertension patients in Binong and Siloam Public Health Centers is 11 patients. Slow deep breathing (SDB) is a conscious action that may feel the breathing control for relaxation technique to reduce the pain. Purpose of the study is to recognize the average of nerve pain on an intervention group and a control group, and to identify the effect of slow deep breathing (SDB) on the average reduction of nerve pain in Binong and Siloam Public Health Centers. The hypothesis of the study is the occurrence of SDB effect in reducing nerve pain case. The study was performed on 11 respondents consisting of 7 intervention groups and 4 control groups and was conducted for 4 weeks. The design of quasi experiment applied total sampling technique, and the nerve pain was measured using pain scale. The analysis result shows that there is no effect of SDB on the average reduction of nerve pain in p value (0.200). However, on manual measurement, there is a reduction of nerve pain scale on the intervention group compared to the control group. This concluded that SDB may still be applied as an intervention care in reducing the nerve pain. It is recommended that similar study may be conducted using more samples SDB can used as nerve pain intervention to patients who have hypertension.
