Abstract

Pada saat ini, kriya handmade sedang sangat berkembang di Indonesia dan merupakan salah satu kontributor terbesar kepada ekonomi kreatif Indonesia. Hal ini membukakan pintu bagi pekerja seni untuk mengembangkan hal-hal baru yang menarik bagi pasar. Nerikomi merupakan sebuah teknik untuk membuat pola dekoratif pada keramik dengan menumpuk, menggulung, dan mengiris tanah liat yang telah diberi warna. Ada banyak pola unik yang dapat dibuat oleh Nerikomi, namun sayangnya teknik ini belum lazim digunakan, padahal Nerikomi dapat memberikan keunikan baru dan menambah nilai dari keramik. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengeksplorasi teknik Nerikomi dan mengaplikasikan pola yang dihasilkannya kepada produk dekorasi rumah yang diminati oleh target market. Penelitian dimulai dengan pencarian data melalui riset sejarah, workshop, wawancara dengan expert, dan menganalisa keramikus Nerikomi. Setelah itu, penulis melakukan eksperimen dan eksplorasi lanjutan, dan melaksanakan survey juga FGD untuk mendapatkan masukkan dari target market. Dari seluruh hasil penelitian, penulis menghasilkan dua koleksi, yaitu satu yang melewati seluruh proses review oleh konsumen dan terwujud dalam sebuah koleksi dekorasi rumah, dan yang satunya merupakan perwujudan dari eksplorasi Nerikomi yang lebih inovatif. Walaupun Nerikomi membutuhkan perhatian khusus dalam membuatnya, teknik ini memiliki potensi yang besar dalam membuat pola, terutama pola-pola yang sangat mendetil. Karakteristik dari teknik ini ditunjukkan pada kedua koleksi akhir dengan baik. / Currently, handcrafted products are developing rapidly in Indonesia and are one of the biggest contributors to Indonesia’s creative economy. This opens a way for craftsmen to develop various new things and products that appeal to the market. Nerikomi is a technique to create decorative patterns on ceramics by stacking, folding, rolling, and slicing colored clay. Many unique patterns can be achieved through Nerikomi; but unfortunately, this technique is not commonly used in comparison to other pottery techniques, though Nerikomi can provide uniqueness and add new values to ceramics. This research was conducted to explore the Nerikomi technique and apply the resulting patterns to home décor products that are likened by the market. The research began with a study on Nerikomi’s history, attending workshops, and also interviewing and analyzing Nerikomi experts. The following steps include doing experiments, more explorations on the technique, distributing surveys and focus group discussion, and a user review to obtain input from the target audience. This research resulted on making two collections, the first one went through all the review process by the target audience and turned into a home décor collection. The other one is a manifestation of a more innovative Nerikomi explorations. Even though this technique requires a special attention on the making process, it has a great potential to make patterns, especially the detailed ones. Characteristics of the technique are well shown on both collections.
