Abstract
Even though the act of physical child abandonment is a relatively common occurrence in Indonesia, it remains an understudied social phenomena. It has been an act of parents since earliest times, but even in our modern enlightened society, children are still ejected from their homes and abandoned in frightening numbers. Even though attention has been directed toward the understanding and combating of the numerous variations of child abuse and neglect, the problem of abandonment is rarely discussed until sensationalistic news reports emerge to remind us that children are still left on street corners. To further understand forms of child abandonment, this paper reviews the Indonesia’s child abandonment regulation which contained on Law No. 35 of 2014 Amending Law on Child Protection (No. 23/2002) and examines the process by comparing forms of child abandonment in the United State of America. This report looks to stimulate further interest in any forms of child abandonment which occur in Indonesia and in the United States of America and in order to protect children’s rights. The results show that Indonesian law regulates forms of abandonment in physical, mental, spiritual, social, and educational forms while in Florida, as example one of the state in the United States of America) regulates the form of abandonment in physical, mental, and emotional forms. Also, the United States of America has set the boundaries between disciplinary action and violence that cause abandonment.
