Abstract

Tradisi umat Katolik berbasis pada dua macam kegiatan, yakni liturgi dan devosi. Kegiatan liturgi dilakukan di tempat yang sudah ditetapkan, termasuk gereja. Sedangkan devosi bersifat lebih fleksibel dan dapat dilakukan di mana saja. Ibadah Jalan Salib merupakan salah satu bentuk kegiatan devosi. Peristiwa Jalan Salib dijadikan sebagai tradisi yang dijalankan tiap masa pra-Paskah, dimana peristiwa ini dibagi menjadi 14 perhentian. Untuk menjalankan ibadah ini, gereja pada umumnya menyediakan wadah berupa ilustrasi seperti lukisan yang menyimbolkan peristiwa Jalan Salib dalam Kitab Suci. Dalam Kitab Suci, peristiwa Jalan Salib terjadi di rute di Yerusalem yang bernama Via Dolorosa. Di Via Dolorosa, keempatbelas perhentiannya kini ditandai dengan simbol, lukisan, ukiran, patung, dan sebagainya untuk memberitahukan kepada para pengunjung kejadian apa yang sedang terjadi di perhentian tersebut. Ketika umat Kristiani melihat adanya simbol-simbol yang berbasis pada Kitab Suci saat menjalankan ibadah, perasaan mereka akan berubah, seolah-olah mereka berpindah ke tempat yang berbeda secara spiritual. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti bagaimana arsitektur dapat mendorong pengalaman spiritual seseorang dalam menjalankan Ibadah Jalan Salib. Dengan mengkolaborasikan peristiwa Jalan Salib dalam Kitab Suci dengan elemen lansekap, arsitektur diharapkan untuk dapat mendorong pengalaman spiritual tersebut. Dalam Ibadah Jalan Salib, strategi yang dapat dilakukan ialah memimik Via Dolorosa pada elemen lansekap untuk menceritakan peristiwa ini secara naratif. Sebelum memulai proses mendesain, teori tentang elemen-elemen lansekap dan strategi-strategi dalam menceritakan narasi harus dipelajari. Kemudian proses mendesain dimulai dengan menganalisa elemen-elemen lansekap yang ada pada tiap perhentian Via Dolorosa, serta strategi naratif yang digunakannya. Setelah mendapatkan data tiap perhentiannya, data ini diimplementasikan pada desain. Tiap bentuk perhentian pada tapak akan berpacu pada data tersebut. Ukuran-ukuran dan bentuk yang digunakan ditentukan oleh bentuk tapak dan eronomi dari aktivitas Ibadah Jalan Salib sendiri. Dengan menjalankan prosedur ini, arsitektur dapat menjadi wadah untuk mendalami kegiatan devosi dengan tidak hanya menyediakan ruang khusus berdevosi saja, tetapi juga memberikannya atribut khusus berupa elemen-elemen lansekap dan strategi naratif yang ada di tiap perhentiannya. / The tradition of Catholics is based on two types of activities, liturgy and devotion. Liturgical activities are carried out in designated places, including churches. While devotional activities are more flexible and can be done anywhere. The Way of the Cross is one of the devotional activities. The Way of the Cross has been used as a tradition that was carried out each pre-Easter period, where the event was divided into 14 stations. Via Dolorosa is a route in Jerusalem in which was where the Way of the Cross took place when Jesus was still alive as a human being on Earth. And now on Via Dolorosa, each station is marked with symbols, paintings, carvings, statues, etc to inform visitors of what is happening at the current station. When Christians see symbols based on the Scriptures while praying, their atmosphere will change individually, as if they are moved to a different place spiritually. This study aims to see how architecture can encourage one's spiritual experience while doing the Way of the Cross activity. By combining the event of the Cross in the Scripture with landscape elements, architecture is expected to encourage one’s spiritual experience. In the Way of the Cross activity, the strategy that can be done is mimicking Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem on landscape elements to tell these events narratively. Before starting the design process, the theories of landscape elements should be studied along with narrative strategies. The design process begin with analyzing the landscape elements and narrative strategies contained in every station in Via Dolorosa. The analysis then implemented to the following design. The form of the elements are decided by the shape of the site as well as the ergonomic of the activity. By doing this procedure, architecture is able to increase the performance of devotional activities not only by providing the intentional spaces, but also including special attributes by injecting Via Dolorosa elements and narrative strategies in the design.
