Abstract

Raden Adjeng Kartini merupakan salah satu tokoh penting dalam sejarah bangsa Indonesia. Surat-surat Kartini merupakan sebuah media yang dapat digunakan untuk mengenal sosok Kartini lebih personal dalam mengetahui isi pikiran dan kehidupan disekelilingnya dan merupakan media komunikasi yang digunakan oleh Kartini kepada teman-temannya yang berada di luar negeri. Terlebih apa yang dialami oleh perempuan Jawa. Pemilihan surat Kartini menjadi menarik karena kaya akan metafora dan emosi, sehingga dapat memperkaya visual dalam menggambarkan kehidupan opresif yang dialami oleh perempuan Jawa pada zaman tersebut. Proses perancangan akan diambil dari surat-surat Kartini yang menceritakan kehidupan opresif perempuan Jawa. Kurun waktu yang diambil berfokus pada tahun 1899 hingga 1902. Visualisasi akan digambarkan secara berdasarkan metafora yang digunakan oleh Kartini dalam menggambarkan nasib perempuan Jawa yang malang pada surat-suratnya. Oleh karena itu, hasil rancangan berupa lima karya ilustrasi, empat diantaranya menggambarkan kehidupan opresif perempuan Jawa. Karya tulis dapat menjadi lebih menarik dengan adanya karya visual yang menjembatani imajinasi pembaca dengan karya tulis. Karena visual memiliki peran dalam menyederhanakan informasi. Selain itu, pendekatan visual merupakan salah satu metode yang menarik bagi masyarakat di era modern. Dengan menyadari fungsi visual art, maka rancangan tugas akhir ini diharapkan dapat menyampaikan perjalanan hidup perempuan Jawa pada zaman dahulu. / Raden Adjeng Kartini best known as a prominent woman especially for native Indonesians. Kartini’s letters were addressed to her friends overseas. The main idea of her letters contains ideas, feelings, and stories about women’s lives around her. These rich in emotions and rhetorical figures letters could be well visualized and portrayed injustice in the Javanese women's lives during that era. On this project, the visualization timeframe would be focused on 1900 to 1902. Visualization will be based on the metaphors that Kartini use on her letters to represent the misfortune of Javanese women’s lives. Therefore, the outcome will be five illustrations, four of which will represent the oppressed lives of Javanese women. A work of visual can support some literature or represent a long message because the use of visual images conveys ideas and messages more simply. On the other hand, visual images were known as an effective methods that were used to attract more viewers in this modern era. By understanding the purpose of visual art, this project should communicate and represent the story about Javanese women lives.
