Abstract

This final project will talk about process of creating the illustrations based on 'Random Acts of Kindness' book. Books that were present with the theme of illustration has become an option for the readers because, it gives a so not heavy topic but is still meaningful, and it's impact to the readers are positive. One of the book with the theme of self-help and has an illustration within it is 'Random Acts of Kindness'. From this, a new problem arise, how to create the new look of 'Random Acts of Kindness’ with the principle and theory of design as the basis of the creation, which will rise the interest of readers on interacting with the book for 90 whole days. The goal of this development is to produce an illustration that has a new-look which taking the principles and theories of design into consideration within it. This final project data taking is using the technique of literature review and interview. This development is based on several theories such as, element of design, principle of design, gestalt theory, color theory, typography theory, and layout theory. From the result of collecting and data analyzing, it is shown that the target of this book development is mostly teenagers with the age of 18 - 20 years old. In this stage of life, teenagers are in the transition of becoming an adult, in which they are starting to focus on self-development, that is shown by their proactive behavior like reading books with the theme of self-help.
