Abstract

Tujuan dari perancangan konsep visual ini adalah membuat sebuah visual novel ‘The Bear and The Nightingale’. Novel ini menceritakan seorang gadis di Rusia abad pertengahan yang memiliki keunikan yaitu melihat makhluk mistis tetapi mendapat pertentangan dari lingkungannya yang menganggap memercayai makhluk mistis sebagai dosa dalam Kristen. Visual konsep ditujukan bagi para audiens yang lebih menyukai media visual. Metode yang dipakai adalah riset mengenai isu yang ada di novel, menentukan kata kunci untuk visual secara keseluruhan, dan riset untuk referensi-referensi visual melalui wawancara dan internet. Isu yang diangkat adalah identitas remaja. Kata kunci yang didapat adalah Russian Fairytale dan Historical Fantasy. Hasil riset dan observasi tersebut diformulasikan menjadi karya konsep visual. Warna digunakan sebagai pembedaan dua dunia. Warna hangat dan cerah menunjukkan dunia manusia sedangkan warna dingin menunjukkan dunia mistis. Hal ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan bahwa karakter utama hidup dalam dua dunia yang mengakibatkan konflik antara norma sosial dan jati dirinya. Hasil dari riset dan desain adalah sebuah buku konsep visual yang merepresentasikan visual novel secara keseluruhan dan digital painting menggunakan Adobe Photoshop. Buku konsep memperlihatkan desain karakter, desain latar, desain pendukung serta keyart./The purpose of this visual concept is to create a visual for the novel 'The Bear and The Nightingale'. This novel tells of a girl in medieval Russia who has the unique ability to see supernatural beings but was rejected by the society which regarded the belief of supernatural creatures as a sin in Christianity. The visual concepts are intended for an audience who prefers visual media. The method used was: researching the issues present in the novel, determining keywords for the overall visual design, and researching the visual references through interviews and the internet. The issue raised was the teenage identity. The keywords obtained are Russian Fairytale and Historical Fantasy. The outcome of the research and observations were formulated to visual concept works. Color was used to distinguish the two worlds: warm and bright colors to portray the human realm, and cold colors to show the supernatural realm. It aims to show that the main character lives within two worlds that causes a conflict between social norms and identity. The outcome of research and design is a visual concept book that representing the overall visual novel and digital paintings using Adobe Photoshop. Concept book demonstrates character design, background design, supporting designs and as well as key arts.
