Abstract

Dalam suatu konflik politik yang melibatkan hubungan bilateral antar negara, media berperan penting sebagai sarana penyedia informasi yang aktual dan berimbang. Informasi ini berguna bagi khalayak untuk dapat mengambil posisi sebagai masyarakat yang partisipatif. Peristiwa eksekusi mati Duo Bali Nine telah menimbulkan konflik politik antara Australia dan Indonesia, serta menyita perhatian media Australia dalam pemberitaannya. Untuk menanamkan suatu pandangan tertentu terhadap khalayak, media mengkonstruksi berita dengan melakukan pembingkaian pada isi berita melalui berbagai atribut yang ada dalam berita. Adanya proses pengkonstruksian berita telah membuat berita tidak lagi murni hasil pelaporan dari peristiwa yang terjadi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggambaran yang dilakukan oleh surat kabar The Australian dan Sydney Morning Herald tentang Pemerintah Indonesia terkait peristiwa eksekusi mati Duo Bali Nine pada artikel berita di halaman sampul periode 22 Januari 2015 sampai 29 April 2015. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi dan menggunakan model pembingkaian dari Pan dan Kosicki. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa surat kabar The Australian dan Sydney Morning Herald memiliki konstruksi yang berbeda tentang peristiwa ini. The Australian menggambarkan Pemerintah Indonesia secara lebih netral dan tidak memihak. Sedangkan Sydney Morning Herald memberikan penggambaran yang negatif terhadap Pemerintah Indonesia. / In a case of political conflict involving bilateral relations between countries, media plays an important role as a medium to provide actual and balance information. The information is useful for the audience to be able to take a stance as a participatory citizen. The case of Bali Nine Pair's death execution has caused a political conflict between Australia and Indonesia, and also took the attention of Australian media in their reporting activity. To give a particular perspective towards the society, media constructs the news by framing the news content through the variety of attributes in the news itself. The process of constructing the news has made the news is no longer purely the result of an occurred event's report. This research aims to determine the portrayal constructed by The Australian and Sydney Morning Herald newspaper about the Indonesian government related to the case of Bali Nine Pair's death execution on the cover page of news articles in the period of January 22nd, 2015 until April 29th 2015. This research uses a qualitative approach with the methods of content analysis and use the model of Pan and Kosicki framing. The results showed that The Australian and Sydney Morning Herald newspaper has a different construction of this case. The Australian portrays the Indonesian government in a more neutral and impartial way. While the Sydney Morning Herald gave a negative portrayal to the Indonesian government.
