Abstract

Cognitive intelligence is one kind of intelligences which human possess that enables human to process and make decision along with their common sense. According to experts, cognitive intelligence consists of five parts, namely, memory, speed, attention, problem solving, and flexibility. Each of this part is handled by a particular part of the brain. In relate to children’s intelligence, many literatures show the importance of this particular intelligence especially when it is developed during their early childhood. To enhance the intelligence development, a special approach should be taken into account as it is proposed here. In this project, game is considered as the effective means to improve cognitive intelligence, especially in the aspect of memory. The children may feel more comfortable when they play game as they will be freed from the burden of participating in a oblige training. The game application, called Children Memory, is developed in Android mobile phone with an expectation that because of the popularity of Android phone, test sampling involving a number of selected users would be done easier. To evaluate how significant is the impact of the game on the memory improvement, each children takes a memory test twice in different day before and after playing the game. The sampling test results show that about 71% of the participant’s memory is improved. From this figure, the memory improvement is about 22.62%. To inspect whether this improvement is significant or not, the hypotheses tests on the average values obtained from the both tests lead to the conclusion that the improvement is significant for the second day, but not enough data to conclude that there is no difference in the first day./ Kecerdasan kognitif adalah kecerdasan yang dimiliki oleh manusia untuk memproses dan membuat keputusan dengan akal sehat manusia. Menurut para ahli, kecerdasan kognitif dibagi menjadi lima bagian yaitu, memori, kecepatan, perhatian, pemecahan masalah, dan fleksibilitas. Setiap bagian dari otak mewakili kinerja sektor tertentu. Kecerdasan kognitif sendiri sangat penting dalam masa pertumbuhan, khususnya selama masa kanak-kanak. Dibutuhkan pendekatan khusus sehingga anakanak dapat meningkatkan kecerdasan kognitif mereka. Untuk menerapkan pendekatan ini, maka penulis menggunakan permainan sebagai media perantara untuk meningkatkan kecerdasan kognitif, karena anak-anak tidak akan merasa terpaksa untuk melatih kecerdasan kognitif mereka dengan bermain game. Aplikasi yang dinamakan Memory Children, dikembangkan pada ponsel yang berbasis Android dikarenakan sedang popular nya Android saat ini, sehingga pengambilan sampel untuk proyek ini dapat lebih mudah dilakukan. Untuk mengetahui keakuratan efek dari permainan ini, penulis menggunakan test daya ingat sebagai tolak ukur dari kecerdasan kognitif anak-anak. Dengan menggunakan test daya ingat penulis mendapatkan hasil sekitar 71% anak yang memainkan permainan ini dapat meningkatkan daya ingat mereka. Persentase dari kenaikan daya ingat adalah 22.62%. Untuk mengetahui apakah peningkatan ini signifikan atau tidak, maka digunakan test hipotesis yang mengukur rata-rata dari setiap nilai yang ada, berdasarkan hasil test pada hari ke 2 peningkatan tersebut dinyatakan valid sedangkan pada hari ke 1 dinyatakan tidak valid dikarenakan data yang kurang banyak.
