Abstract

Problem solving is one of the 21st century’s skills that is important in current situation. However the effort to improve student’s problem solving skills in grade nine of SMP XYZ is not satisfactory. Not only that students scored very low when they were asked to solve problem solving questions, but also students’ tendency to memorise the steps to answer questions. It is lead to wrong answer when the question is altered. Students with low mathematics attitude tends to avoid mathematics entirely. Due to the problem faced, the research was conducted to see the effect of problem posing to students’ problem solving ability as well as their mathematics attitude. Problem posing, a process of creating or posing questions related to topic discuss, is an approached that based on research can increase students’ problem solving ability. While students posing questions and trying to find the solution, they learn solving problems in a safe environment that is less threatening. Safe and non threathening situation will eventually improves students’ attitude toward mathematics. This is a matching only pretest – posttest control group research design, done to find the effect of applying problem posing on students’ problem solving ability and their mathematics attitude. In this research it is found that students’ problem-solving ability increase after implemetation of problem posing as well as their mathematics attitude. The research also found that problem posing has strong positive correlation toward problem solving skills. On the other hand, problem posing has positive medium strength towards mathematics attitude. Although both students’ problem-solving skills and mathematics attitude are increasing but the increases in students’ problem-solving ability is not significant in comparison to the class control. / Pemecahan masalah adalah salah satu keterampilan abad ke-21 yang penting dalam situasi saat ini. Namun upaya untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah siswa kelas sembilan SMP XYZ masih kurang. Tidak hanya nilai siswa yang sangat rendah ketika diminta untuk menyelesaikan pertanyaan pemecahan masalah, tetapi juga kecenderungan siswa untuk menghafal langkah-langkah menjawab pertanyaan. Ini mengarah pada jawaban yang salah ketika pertanyaan diubah. Siswa dengan sikap matematika yang rendah cenderung menghindari matematika sama sekali. Karena masalah yang dihadapi, maka penelitian dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruh problem posing terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa serta sikap matematikanya. Problem posing, proses membuat atau mengajukan pertanyaan terkait topik bahasan, merupakan pendekatan yang berbasis penelitian dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa. Saat siswa mengajukan pertanyaan dan mencoba menemukan solusi, mereka belajar memecahkan masalah di lingkungan aman yang tidak terlalu mengancam. Situasi aman dan tidak mengancam pada akhirnya akan meningkatkan sikap siswa terhadap matematika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian matching only pretest - posttest control group group, dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan problem posing terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa dan sikap matematikanya. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa meningkat setelah diterapkannya problem posing serta sikap matematisnya. Hasil penelitian juga menemukan bahwa problem posing memiliki korelasi positif yang kuat dengan keterampilan pemecahan masalah. Di sisi lain, problem posing memiliki kekuatan medium positif terhadap sikap matematika. Meskipun kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan sikap matematika siswa meningkat tetapi peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa tidak signifikan dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol.
