Abstract

Composite beam is an efficient beam in resisting bending moment so that it is becoming popular. It is proved with many code that specifically addressed for composite beam design such as SNI in Indonesia, AISC and AASHTO in United States of America, Eurocode 4 in European Union and many codes from the other countries. In addition, SNI is a code that identic to AISC. Besides, composite beam design now can be done by using computer software, such as ETABS and SAP2000. From that condition, comes the desire to know how efficient SNI/AISC compared to another codes, these codes are Eurocode 4 and AASHTO. These codes are chosen because of the availability of literature. Moreover, it is need to be reviewed if the softwares are sufficient for use in accordance with these codes. This study will explain the process and compare the design output of SNI and the other codes. Then, the output also will be compared with the output from software. With this, it is concluded that from the bending moment capacity SNI/AISC give conservative results for compact and noncompact beam. In addition, Eurocode 4 is better for compact beam and AASHTO is better for noncompact beam. In general, composite effect increase the bending moment capacity of the beam with an increase at least 60% compared with noncomposite beam. In case of using software, it is concluded that for this study ETABS still limited for SNI/AISC and Eurocode 4, while SAP2000 not been able to design the composite beam.
