This paper discusses the legal protection of consumers in conducting online transactions in the perspective of Law no.8 of 1999 concerning consumer protection. Online transaction processing has unique characteristics where the media used is the internet so that sellers and consumers do not meet in person.This condition is beneficial for consumers, because consumers have many choices to get goods purchased, but on the other hand violations of consumer rights are very risky to occur, therefore we need legal protection for consumers in online transactions. The result of research show that the consumer protection cannot be maximally implemented because regulating it is still distributed in several laws and requesting implementing regulations. In addition, Law No. 8 of 1999 has not been able to extend consumer protection in the electronics trade transactions or as known as e-commerce as a whole. While in the case of consumer disputes, the parties can take the matter through litigation or non-litigation, according to the agreement of the parties. Nevertheless, the alternative online dispute resolutions can be full implemented. This research suggests to The Government to immediately form a government regulation regarding on trade transaction through an electronic system and to regulate dispute resolution online.
